Photojournalism is a type of journalism
in which images are created, edited and publishes for the intention of telling
a news story. It is a way of communicating news through photographs widely used
in newspapers, magazines and blogs etc.
In today’s world where words don’t
suffice to tell a news story and convince reader for what’s true, photographs
of an event are mandatory for people mostly believe what they see. Moreover, a
news story with photographs is more fascinating for the readers than merely
words. A photojournalist must carry
necessary photographic equipment and must possess the ability of taking quick
decisions.
A news story with a photograph is immortalized by its fair and
accurate representation, the use of camera lens, what the story tells about
picture, what the picture itself tells and what kind of work is behind the
picture. Along with all these things, timeliness of a photograph cannot be
neglected.
Albeit, roots of photojournalism in
Hyderabad city are not too deep and it will take time to have its wide deserved
place in the city, there are many outstanding photographers and
photojournalists here.
One of the most prominent
photojournalists of Hyderabad is Yusuf Nagori who is regarded as perfectionist
too due to his dedication to work. Nagori started his career with Qaumi Akhbar.
His excellency of work can be seen through his photographs of Tando Bahawal
accident of 1983-84.
Those photographs were potent to the extent that
authorities were evoked to take actions about it.
Another prominent name in the field of
photojournalism in Hyderabad is Nadeem Khawar. Khawar started his career in the
year 1994 having worked in several national and international newspapers. Many
most-talked disasters were photographed by him including Badin flood of the
year ’03 and earthquake of Oct 08, 2005.
NadeemKhawar is currently associated
with Online News Agency, biggest news agency of Pakistan and European Press
Photo Agency which is based in Germany. He is also the first and only
photojournalist of Hyderabad to works with the technology of digital camera and
laptop. Shuja-ud-din is one of the senior and most active photojournalists of
all time. He started to work in the era of black and white photography in 1996.
He is now working in Nawai Waqt newspaper.
Akhtar Pirazada’s name is certainly to
be mentioned where there is photojournalism of Hyderabad. Pirazada has worked
in newspapers like Aghaz Akhbar and Hilal-e-Pakistan which are based in
Karachi. Pirzada is rendering his services to the field for 36 years. He is
currently working in Ibrat newspaper. He’s one of those journalists who possess
their own photo studio.
Another photojournalist who owns a photo
studio is Nazeer Soomro. Soomro is one of the senior journalists who started
their work with black and white photography. He holds the honour of being the only
photojournalist to have worked with 12 newspapers all at the same time. His students
included able photographers like Zulfiqar Panhwar, Rehan Khan, Ali Raza Soomro,
Yasir Rajput and many more. Nisar Ahmed is also a senior photojournalist who
owns a photo studio.
Other senior and prominent photographers
of Hyderabad city are Akram Shahid (APP, Reuters), Abid Ali (Koshish), Ali
Wahid (Kawish, Qaumi Akhbar), Arif Shahid (Mehran), Adeel Ahmed (Express-eng),
Shahid Ali (Express-urdu), Parvez Masih (AP), Jan Ali (Jeejal) and Saleem Zai
(Sobh).
