English Journalism in Hyderabad

Indus Times
English journalism started with launch of Daily Indus Times from Hyderabad.  Its owner was Mr. Mirza who retired from Daily Dawn and wanted to give tough competition to Dawn. It was brought out from Pakka Qila area. He hired Mr Majeed a senior journalist of Pakistan Times, a popular paper of that time. The team included M. Akhiar, M.B Naqvi and others. This was the first English newspaper from interior Sindh.  Local team included Rasheed Niaz (who later joined Dawn in Karachi), Idrees Bakhtiar, Aziz Malik. In second phase, Syed Nayab Hussain was made editor. Nayab was also writer and poet. At some stage Nisar Channa also joined this paper as crime reporter. Due to financial crisis, this newspaper was closed. 

Sindh Observer
In mid seventies weekly Sindh Observer was launched by Qazi Mohammed Akbar. Qazi sahib an old Muslim Leaguer and politician has experience of running Daily Ibrat Sindhi newspaper.  The team included Shaikh Aziz, Syed Nayab Hussain, Saleem Qazi, Ali Hassan. Later Qazi family brought out Sindhi daily Sindh News. However Sindh observer continued for many years. Its second phase team included Faiz Baloch, Sohail Sangi and Ashraf Nahyoon.  In eighties it was made daily newspaper.

Idrees Bakhtiar 
Mr. Idrees Bakhtiar is currently Director Ethics in Geo TV, remained president of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) Dastoori Group, and the Associate Editor of the Herald, the prestigious monthly news and opinion magazine of the Dawn Media Group.  He has also worked with BBC Urdu for many years and contributed news to Indian newspaper Daily Telegraph. Prior to this, he was elected secretary of the Karachi Union of Journalists and a member of the governing body for the Karachi Press Club.  
Throughout his career, Mr. Bakhtiar has reported for numerous newspapers, including being the Chief Reporter for the Star and reporting for Daily Indus Times, the first English newspaper in the interior of Sindh Province.

Dastgeer Bhatti Daily Muslim: Ibrat, Hilal-e-Pakistan, Muslim, Sindh tribune

G.N Mughal reporter of Business Recorder belongs to Matiari town. Earlier he worked as reporter of Daily Hilal-e-Pakistan in Karachi. When Gen. Ziaul Haq took over the Hilal-e-Pakistan, he along with other was sacked and he joined Daily Business Recorder as reporter in Hyderabad.

Qamaruddin Khan s/o late Akbar Khan
He was born in Khanpura, Ajmer Sharif-Rajisthan on December 8 1933 (As per Matriculation Certificate: June 10, 1936). He got early education from Moinia Islamia High School, Ajmer. Ghulam Hussain High School, Hyderabad Sindh.City Arts College, Hyderabad Sindh. He did  M.A (Philosophy) 1961, M.A (Islamic Culture 1964) (Private), M.A (Political Science 1970) (Private)  All from Sindh University
  
Best speaker of the school, scouts troops leader of school, represented college in various All Pakistan Inter Collegiate Urdu debates. Founder editor of Wisdom an annual magazine of the Department of Philosophy
University of Sindh and obtained messages from renowned philosophers of the time Bertrand Russell, A.j.ayer and Dr. Radhkrishnan also the president of India at that time
He worked as sub editor of daily Indus Times, Pasban and Basharat (Hyderabad).Also wrote editorial for Pasban.

He was conver Pakistan Nizam-e-Islam Party Hyderabad Division 1957-1958 . After the formation of Pakistan Democratic Party was elected Convener of the party for Hyderabad division.
He worked as sub editor-Daily Pasban, Daily Indus Times and Daily Bahsharat . He contributed stories, quotations and tit bits to children’s pages of Dawn Urdu in 1951.

First column published in Daily Jang Karachi on 18 March 1986. He contributed columns on current nationals and international affairs mostly to Daily Jung but also to Nawa-i-waqt, Jasarat and Express.
